"Victimless Leather" by SymbioticA (an Australian artistic laboratory enabling artists to engage in wet biology practices and collaborate with scientists in a biological science department)
The Tissue Culture and Art Project, a project by the SymbioticA lab, was on show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2008. The semi-living exhibit, entitled “Victimless Leather”, was constructed using connective tissue from mice as well as human bone cells, and biocompatible polymer moulded into the shape of a torso, 'victimless' materials, meaning no living creature was killed in order for its creation.
The 'leather', in the shape of a leather jacket, grew as long as it was fed.
Although the specimen on show died well before it was a wearable size, I would like to own a wearable version.
